In support of the longstanding 52-year organization, Bechtel will provide training and employment opportunities for Bahraini engineering students and professionals. As part of this collaboration, BSE members will be able to complete joint training programs at various Bechtel sites throughout the region.

“Bechtel began working in Bahrain in 1943, in that time we’ve delivered more than 300 projects for our customers. We are proud to continue those partnerships that train local people and provide employment opportunities in the region,” said Abdul-Rahman Al-Ghabban, President of Saudi Arabia Bechtel Company and Regional Manager of the Middle East. “Bahrain represents promising talent and we hope to match the right individuals with our diversified regional and global projects.”

Across Bechtel projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, more than 50% of the Bahraini nationals employed are women. Several Bahraini nationals working at Bechtel also attended the signing ceremony and commended the company’s commitment to creating a work environment that promotes professional development.

“Bahrain Society of Engineers pays great attention to building bridges of communication and cooperation with leading engineering, industrial and scientific institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain to enhance cooperation and participation in training,” said Dr. Raeda Al-Alawi, President of the Society of Engineers. “Bechtel’s support and empowerment of women shows the company’s commitment to inclusion and is encouraging for Bahraini women to join the field of engineering.”

Bechtel’s first project in Middle East was in 1943 building a refinery for Bahrain Petroleum Company. Bechtel has since completed three projects for Aluminum Bahrain (Alba), innovating aluminum production by constructing smelters for Line 6 as well as Line 4 and 5 expansions that began operations in 1992 and 2005, respectively. Building on the 30-year partnership, Bechtel is supporting Alba with the development of the Line 7 feasibility study to achieve a new aluminum capacity in Bahrain.
